School welcomes air ambulance team to teach children first aid skills

On Friday, March 7, St Thomas a Becket Primary School had a visit from the air ambulance team, who taught all the children, from Reception to Year Six, a range of first aid skills, including CPR, the recovery position, the process for dialling 999 and how to support someone who is choking.

The school said that these skills are “so important for the children to learn due to their potential for saving lives”.

Acting headteacher Chloe Stobbart said: “It was amazing to see the children so engaged in learning these first aid skills.

“We feel so pleased that the children are able to take these potentially life-saving skills out into the community with them.

“I think some of the children may have futures in the emergency services.

“A big thank you to Wiltshire Air Ambulance for providing this experience for the children.”

The school said that they believe children are “never too young to learn this vital skill”.
