Mompesson House
Mompesson House is a quintessential Queen Anne townhouse, situated inside Salisbury's historic Cathedral Close. It has welcoming proportions and a homely atmosphere.
The hidden and tranquil garden offers a chance to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. It's easy to imagine living here as you walk down the graceful oak staircase, perch on a window seat and admire the wonderful plasterwork. All of the interiors are decorated as they might have been in the 1700s, except the library which is 1950s. You can see the Turnbull Collection of English 18th-century drinking glasses, fine period furniture, and English porcelain.
The stumpwork in the green room is a fascinating example of raised embroidery. Explore the collection before you visit. The secluded walled garden with its central lawn and traditionally planted herbaceous borders is the perfect place to relax. You can enjoy locally made cakes, freshly made sandwiches or a cream tea in the garden tea-room.
