Salisbury racer claims first-ever Supersport Cup victory to end season

Stephen ‘Tommo’ Thomas, who races with the Army Motorcycle Road Race Team, clinched the win during the final round of the 2025 British Superbike Championship at Brands Hatch in Kent, competing in the Supersport Cup Class.

Tommo set a personal best during Friday’s FP2 session before he and his team made the bold decision to overhaul the setup of his Triumph 765RS ahead of Saturday’s sprint race.

He said: “I’m relieved and happy to have secured this win for myself and the team.

“It’s been a tough season on the new bike, and there’s no better way to round off the year and sharing this experience with my daughter is very special.

“I just want to thank the Army team, sponsors such as Black Onyx Concepts, my family and friends who help me run the bike and finally, the support of local companies like Signs in Motion, JP Autobodies and JMF Heating and plumbing who have been by my side for many years.

“Thank you all for your support.”

Tommo finished second in class during the sprint race but said the changes were a step in the right direction as reflected in his improved lap times.

The Sunday feature race was his final chance to secure a class win for the 2025 season.

Heavy rain began just before the race, turning the 15-lap contest into a test of skill and caution.

Despite battling a visor issue that worsened throughout the race, Tommo worked his way past the leaders to take control of the race with more than 10 laps remaining.

He maintained a narrow lead until the final four laps, when he began to pull away, eventually crossing the finish line with a comfortable margin to claim his maiden Supersport Cup victory.

Tommo, who finished fourth overall in the 2025 season, will return to the British Supersport Cup in 2026 with hopes of mounting a full championship challenge.

He is inviting sponsorship and support for the upcoming season.
