Trespasser on railway near Salisbury – trains may be cancelled

A trespasser on the railway has been causing delays to trains between Salisbury and Gillingham today.

At around 11.20am, a train on its way to Exeter alerted Network Rail that there was a trespasser about two miles outside Gillingham.

A train going the other way spotted the man near the track – but not on it – and stopped so the driver could speak to him.

Police were called to the scene and the train then continued its journey, arriving at Tisbury 20 minutes late as a result.

The person involved has since left the railway and normal service has resumed.

A Network Rail spokesperson said: “We’re grateful to customers for their patience while we dealt with the incident.”
