‘Killer kerb’ partly destroyed as car transporter scrapes it to pieces

The Trief kerb on the corner of South Western Road and Fisherton Street caused damage to numerous drivers’ vehicles, so Wiltshire Council did ‘repair works’.

Wiltshire Council operated temporary traffic lights next to the mini-roundabout on Monday, August 18, as it made changes to the junction, including reducing the gradient of a footpath beneath the railway bridge and replacing a section of damaged kerb.

The council also replaced pedestrian railings on the other side of the road that had been damaged by vehicle strikes.

However, the height of the kerb means that large lorries turning left from South Western Road onto Fisherton Street struggle to get around the tight corner without hitting it.

Just a week after the repair works, the kerb and the opposite railings were damaged again.

Videos have been shared of a number of lorries getting stuck at the corner or hitting the kerb.

Now, though, the kerb has been partially destroyed in a scrape with a car transporter, breaking it into pieces.

A video filmed by the indian restaurant across the road, The Shah Jahan, shows the bottom of the blue transporter scraping against the kerb and damaging the vehicle’s paint work as well as the kerb.

A spokesperson at The Shah-Jahan said: “It used to happen all the time, but since they did some work on it, not so much. But still hasn’t stopped altogether.

“The problem is that large lorries can’t make it around. Whenever one comes, it causes so much traffic.”

Wiltshire Council have been contacted for comment.
